Gazelle G9801 — Acoustic Leak Detection Instrument
Every pressurized leak makes a sound: water forcing its way through a crack vibrates the pipe and the material around it. The G9801 is built to hear exactly that. A high-precision ground sensor picks up those vibrations through tiles, screed and plaster, while a DSP digital signal processor with digital spectrum analysis and filtering strips away footsteps, traffic and AC hum — leaving only the leak’s signature in the engineer’s aviation-grade headphones.
How Acoustic Leak Detection Works
Pressurized water escaping through a crack or failed joint creates continuous vibration — a hiss that travels along the pipe and into the surrounding wall or floor.
The G9801’s high-precision probe is placed on tiles, walls and floors along the pipe route, capturing vibrations far below what a human ear detects unaided.
The 144 MHz processor analyses the sound spectrum and filters ambient noise — so an engineer in a busy building still hears the leak clearly.
Readings on the 0–99 signal display grow stronger as the probe nears the source. The peak reading marks the leak — often to within centimetres.
